Duquesne basketball teams place four players on Atlantic-10 Conference teams
Senior guard Jocelyn Floyd, junior forward Wumi Agunbiade and freshman guards April Robinson and Derrick Colter were all named to Atlantic-10 Conference teams this past week after the end of conference play. Robinson and Colter were named to the All-Rookie teams after breakthrough seasons by the two freshmen. Colter became the first underclassman in Duquesne basketball history to lead the team in scoring and assists, averaging 13.5 points per game and 5.2 assists per game. Robinson was A-10 Rookie of the Week three times and joins current teammates junior forward Orsi Szecsi and Agunbiade as Duquesne women who have been named to the All-Rookie team. Floyd was named A-10 Defensive Player of the Year after leading the nation in steals with 133, the most in the A-10 conference since 1998. Agunbiade finished the season leading the Dukes in points averaging 12.8 points per game. Agunbiade also led the team in rebounds averaging 7.4 per game. This is Agunbiade ’s third time being honored by the A-10 after joining the All-Rookie team as a freshman and making the second team last season.
Duquesne women’s lacrosse picks up a victory
The Duquesne women’s lacrosse team evened their record to .500 with a 16-11 victory over Robert Morris University this past Saturday evening at Robert Morris. The Dukes came back to beat the Colonials after being down 7-5 going into the second half. Junior midfielder Caitlin Prince led the Dukes with four goals while junior attacker Haley Marafioti and sophomore midfielders Amanda Kidder and Clare Hurley each added three goals for the Dukes. Marafioti also added three assists for a six point outing. The Red and Blue split the outing between goalies junior Kristen Gregory and freshman Jenna Bishop who was credited with the win. Both goalies played a half for Duquesne. The Red and Blue outshot the Colonials 32-20 to help them claim the victory over Robert Morris. The Dukes next play at Canisius this Sunday afternoon.
Duquesne men lose final game of the season
The Duquesne men’s basketball team lost their 15th conference game Saturday to the University of Richmond 79-55 in Richmond. Freshman guard Derrick Colter once again led the Dukes in scoring with 18 points. He was followed by fellow freshman guard Quevyn Winters who scored 12 points for the Dukes. Colter’s 18 points were a game high. In their last outings as Dukes senior forward Andre Marhold and senior guard Sean Johnson scored 0 and nine points respectively. Johnson finished his career 22nd overall on the Dukes’ all-time scoring list with 1,245 points while Marhold finished fifth overall in blocks with 107. The Dukes finished the season with a losing record of 8-22 and a conference record of 1-15. This was the Dukes’ eighth straight loss at the University of Richmond. The Dukes haven’t won a game in Richmond since Dec. 20, 1993. This was the Dukes’ sixth straight loss overall after defeating Temple on a buzzer beater free-throw shot from Colter on Feb. 14 in Philadelphia.
